What will I learn?

Module 1

·       Anatomy & physiology of the venous system in the lower limb

·       Overview of the circulatory system

·       Differences between veins & arteries

·       Normal venous return

·       Resting & working pressures

Module 2

·       Understand what a Leg Ulcer is

·       Identify factors that contribute to venous, arterial and mixed aetiology leg ulcers

·       Differentiate between the various types of leg ulcers and recognise their different signs and symptoms

Module 3

·       How compression works

·       The importance of holistic assessment

·       The different bandage types and their functions

·       Working and resting pressures

Module 4

·       Look at he physiology of normal wound healing and its stages

·       Be able to identify and assess each stage of healing

Module 5

·       Understand delayed wound healing its causes and how to address this

Module 6

•       Understand the rationale for the new terminology in the revised Infection Continuum

•       How to recognise and treat infection

•       Understand the antimicrobials available and their selection/use

•       Identify the characteristics of a biofilm

 Module 7

Overview of Skin Tears to the lower leg

·       Definition of a skin tear

·       Brief overview of the anatomy of the skin

·       Skin tear classification

·       Treatment of a skin tear
