After attending this event a delegate should be able to:

 

 

Glucose Physiology

  •  Explain how insulin works
  • Understand why insulin may be needed as a therapy option in type 2 diabetes

Management guidelines for type 2 diabetes

  • Understand the principles of the NICE guidelines and ADA/EASD consensus report for the treatment of type 2 diabetes 
  • Understand how these principles are implemented in their local guidelines
  • Understand the need to tailor targets and treatment to the individual person with type 2 diabetes

Types of insulin

  • Explain what types of insulin and insulin regimens are available
  • Describe the benefits and limitations of each type of regime

Steps to insulin initiation

  • Be able to select the appropriate insulin regime

  •  Recognise whether insulin is appropriate or not for each individual person

  •  Understand the psychological barriers to insulin initiation as perceived by the person with type 2 diabetes

  • Realistically assess the amount of support a person will need for initiating insulin, in the light of their lifestyle and commitment to self-management

  •  Advise on which oral therapies can be continued together with insulin, and any restrictions

 

Feedback from our face to face training events has been extremely positive but these events are also significantly more costly to run.  

We have unfortunately experienced up to 40% of delegates not coming and not cancelling, so we cannot give their place to another delegate on the waiting list.

Delegates who do not attend or cancel their place in a timely manner (or notify us on the day in the case of illness) may be charged the cost of their place on the course which is £25-50.
