In line with the NMC Standards for Student supervision and assessment (SSSA) any practice nurse wishing to support a student on placement will need to complete transition training. This course will consolidate the training and support you through the transition. By the end of the session, you will be added onto an educator register approver to Assess/supervise student nurses.

Practice assessors are registered nurses, midwives, and nursing associates, or in the case of prescribing programmes any qualified prescriber, who assess a student’s practice learning for a placement or a series of placements. A nominated practice assessor also works with the academic assessor to make recommendations for progression for the student they are assigned to.

The practice assessor has a responsibility to proactively develop and remain ‘up-to-date’ with their own professional practice and to think about how their previous experiences may enable them to preform in this role. The practice assessor, although can be trained as both a supervisor and assessor, cannot act as an assessor to a student they are supervising. An assessor is not responsible for the student’s supervision but the sign off period at the end of student’s placements.

*Once this training has been completed you will be an assessor and will be sent a certificate. There is no follow up work to complete but you are expected to keep up to date with you training.
