In line with the NMC Standards for Student supervision and assessment (SSSA) any practice nurse wishing to support a student on placement will need to complete transition training. This course will consolidate the training and support you through the transition. By the end of the session, you will be added onto an educator register approver to Assess/supervise student nurses.

Practice Supervisors will act as a facilitator and will be expected to understand the outcomes that the student is hoping to achieve and think about their own previous experiences, education, and training to give the student the best support possible. Being a supervisor can help to develop your own skills as well as the students and may bring light to any additional training you may need or want to undertake.

To be a supervisor, you must be registered with a professional regulator like the NMC, GMC or HCPC. Health and social care professionals who are not registered with a professional regulator cannot be practice supervisors. All nurses, midwives and nursing associates should be capable of fulfilling a practice supervisor role.

*Please be aware that once you have completed the supervisor session you will be sent a short worksheet and document to sign, once this is completed you will be recognized as a supervisor. You are not a supervisor until this is completed.
